Beginner’s Guide: Setting Up Your Computer for Data Science with VS Code, Miniconda, Jupyter Notebooks, Notion & YouTube Channels📚💻📊

🔥 Introduction

As a beginner in the field of data science, setting up your computer can be a bit overwhelming. But don’t worry, I’m here to help! In this blog post, I’ll be going over the top 5 tools that I believe every data science beginner should have on their computer: VS Code, Miniconda, Jupyter Notebooks, Notion, and some recommended YouTube channels.

 ⚒️ The Tools

First up, we have VS Code, my personal favorite text editor for coding. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and has a ton of helpful extensions that make coding a breeze. Plus, it’s free! If you’re new to coding and don’t have a text editor yet, I highly recommend giving VS Code a try. You can download it here: https://code.visualstudio.com/ Next, we have Miniconda, a package, and an environment manager for Python. This tool is a must-have for any data science beginner because it allows you to easily manage your Python packages and environments. Plus, it’s a lot more lightweight than Anaconda, which is another popular package and environment manager for Python. You can download Miniconda here: https://docs.conda.io/en/latest/miniconda.html Third, on our list is Jupyter Notebooks. If you’re going to be working with data, Jupyter Notebooks are a great tool for analyzing and visualizing it. Plus, they’re easy to use and perfect for sharing your work with others. It can be installed via Miniconda or Anaconda or by pip. Next up is Notion, a powerful productivity tool that I use to keep track of my tasks, notes, and projects. It’s versatile enough that you can use it as a notebook, task manager, calendar, or even as a CRM system. One of my favorite features is the ability to link different pages together, which makes organizing my work a breeze. Notion is free to use with some limitations, but paid plans are available.
